Assessments

  • Neuropsychological evaluations are typically used to assess cognitive abilities after brain injuries, neurological conditions (e.g., Alzheimer's, stroke), neurodevelopmental and intellectual disorders, learning disabilities, mental health disorders, or to evaluate competency for legal cases such as personal injury claims or criminal responsibility. 

  • The evaluation includes a series of standardized tests that measure areas such as memory, attention, language, problem-solving, motor skills, and emotional/behavioral functioning. These tests help to identify strengths and weaknesses in an individuals functioning to help us better assist the individual in daily life. 

  • The evaluation process can take several hours, typically ranging from 3 to 6 hours, depending on the complexity of the case and the specific tests being administered. Some evaluations may spread across multiple sessions. 

  • Once the evaluation is complete, the neuropsychologist will analyze the results and prepare a comprehensive report which may include recommendations for treatment, accommodations, or further evaluations. The findings can be shared with your healthcare provider, attorney, or other relevant parties. 

  • ItemPreparation typically involves being well-rested and mentally prepared for the testing. It is helpful to bring any relevant medical or psychological records. The neuropsychologist will also ask about your medical history, symptoms, and concerns prior to starting the testing.  description

  • Yes, a neuropsychological evaluation can help diagnose conditions such as brain injuries,  dementia, attention disorders, learning disabilities, and cognitive impairments. 

  • Depending on the findings, the neuropsychologist may recommend therapy, rehabilitation, or further medical evaluation. The evaluation itself is part of understanding how your brain works, including cognitive and functional abilities, which can guide treatment options. 

Insurance & Payment

  • We accept Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts insurance plans for neuropsychological/psychological evaluations. However, please note that insurance plans can vary greatly in their coverage for care. We advise our patients to check with their insurance company about benefits before the evaluation to avoid unexpected out-of-pocket costs. 

    *Please note that your health insurance cannot be utilized for forensic evaluations, academic testing, or ADHD coaching. 

  • We require a referral from a provider, such as a primary care physician, neurologist, psychiatrist, or therapist for individuals looking to pursue an evaluation using their insurance coverage. 

    A referral from a provider is not required for those utilizing private pay options.

  • Private pay options are available for individuals who do not wish to or cannot go through medical insurance. A referral from a provider is not required for those utilizing private pay options. We understand quality mental health care can be expensive and therefore, we accept cash, check, and all major credit cards .
