What is Autism?
Autism is not a condition with one set of symptoms but rather, a spectrum. This means people with autism may have a wide range of strengths and difficulties with some needing more support than others.
A neuropsychological evaluation provides a deeper understanding of how the brain is working across areas such as language, communication, attention and executive functioning, emotional regulation, learning and memory.
Our role as clinicians, educators, and caregivers is to understand each person’s unique neurological profile and help them thrive in the world.
What You Can Do
If you suspect you or a loved one has autism:
Seek a formal evaluation with a qualified professional, such as a neuropsychologist.
Learn about strengths and weaknesses.
Advocate for and speak to professionals regarding appropriate supports which may include therapy, educational services, or accommodations in the workplace.
With understanding, acceptance, and appropriate supports, people with autism can lead fulfilling lives.
